Listening to Landscape
Listening to Landscape is a limited edition artist-produced CD released in 2002. Each of the pieces on this disc pieces attempts to recreate my own "acoustic sense of place" of a number of location where I have made field recordings over the years. In each of these works I am not attempting to "capture" or "preserve" the natural soundscape of each location, but rather have constructed each piece from multiple recordings made at slightly different locations (sonic perspectives) and at different times. While all these locations are to some degree "natural," none of them are so far removed from civilization that you cannot hear cars, trucks, planes, trains, or boats frequently in each recording, and rather than attempting to remove these sounds, they have been incorporated into each "sonic landscape."
Production of this CD was funded in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a State Agency, and the Ragdale Foundation.
